Trip Report

So DH and I drove down to the Willamette Valley on Friday as part of an early anniversary getaway and to pick up our new purebred pedigreed breeding stock of New Zealand Red rabbits. We drove back on Saturday. It was nice to get away, the weather was beautiful on Friday, but we hit a snowstorm on the last leg of the trek home on Saturday. We had a great time, though, and even though he won't be home for our actual anniversary (our 19th) on the 18th, we still feel like we got to celebrate. We had a nice steak dinner out.

And our new does Sienna and Cinnabun:



They are very sweet, gentle-tempered rabbits. No biters or scratchers in this lot.

Costs for the trip (I'm rounding):

$90.00 for the rabbits
$80.00 for the hotel fee
$82.00 for 2 tanks of gas
150.00 for six meals out

    What is the green on their ears? Especially the new buck?

    It's tattoo ink. The breeder tattooed Wildfire's and Cinnabun's ears with her rabbitry numbers. The excess ink will wear off in a couple of weeks, leaving a green number where the tattoo clamp pierced it. You do the clamp and then rub ink into the ear. Sienna was too young for a tattoo. Her ear isn't big enough and her immune system is not mature enough. She is about 3 weeks younger than Cinnabun. It is necessary if you are going to show rabbits at all and a good idea if you have a lot of rabbits who all look the same. They use green ink on bunnies who have darker fur and black ink on the white bunnies. I haven't ever tattooed any of my rabbits and the only one I might is Starbuck if I decide to show him. He is the only one of the whites that is both pedigreed and breed standard. I prefer to just label their cages with their names though. I may never show any of my rabbits, but if I do it will likely be Wildfire.
