So Excited!

August 14th, 2011 at 05:57 am

DH went onto our insurance website tonight to see if any of the claims from Virginia Mason had processed yet, since I haven't seen any bills. Well, they have. And apparently my insurance company and VM have a very, very good contract between them, because for each visit so far (discounting the one on the 9th which has not been processed yet), all of the radiological tests, and the surgery and the hospital stay, we will owe a little under $1750. I was sure it would be somewhere around $5000, but it's not. I have already set aside $2000 for medical expenses.

This puts us back on track for having our credit card debt paid off by year's end! Even if I set aside $2000 for the next surgery in November, we will still be able to pay the credit card debt in full. Which means starting in January we can start putting all of that money towards a downpayment on our next house. We should be able to save $60,000 in 2012 and if we sell our house (just under $20K left on the mortgage) for even just what we paid for it, we would still have over $100,000 for a downpayment.

I can't believe our goals are this close to coming true. When I started this blog I never thought this day would come. I hoped it would and I dreamed it would, but I was never really sure. I think I'm almost out of the tunnel.

Congrats!! I've been reading your blog over the years as you chronicled your triumphs and setbacks. This is really awesome news. Sounds like 2012 is going to be a great year for your family.

That's great news, Robin! I somewhere missed what your surgeries were about, but it sounds like you've certainly had more than your share of medical/healthcare issues. I hope this is the last of it and that you can get back to pursuing your goals.

It must feel so wonderful to see your goal so close after working so long to get there!

Fantastic! But press on, you aren't out of the tunnel yet! The reason I mentioned it is because I was so very close, had an issue, and it stalled me out for six months.

Thanks, everyone. Your congratulations mean a lot.

@PatientSaver--I haven't actually gone into the details of my surgeries (except for the one on my knee which was unrelated to the others) on purpose. Some things are just TMI for me to share. I'm pretty open about most stuff in my life, but a few things I still keep private.

@Jerry--You know I hated this insurance when we got it, because it had a $2500 deductible, which was really hard on us at the time, but DH's work had switched and there was nothing we could do if we wanted insurance. But after meeting that deductible there were no co-pays, and in network had them paying 90% and us paying 10%, which is really quite good. Their deal with VM was even better than that. Next year we will have the money set aside for the deductible and it won't hit so hard.

@Baselle--No, I know. Anything can happen between now and then, but I will keep my head down and keep plugging away, paying off debt and building up that EF.
