No Wonder it Felt Like Drowning

September 15th, 2017 at 05:20 am

I just added up how much we have paid on medical expenses this year through the end of August. And this is assuming I actually got every bill recorded. $19,637.14. Almost $20,000. And around $15,000 of that was when we had no income and had to pay out of savings. $8022 of that was insurance premiums for 6 months for a family of four.

I didn't even add up what that stupid insurance mandate cost us in 2016. I know it wasn't as bad as this year, but it wasn't pretty either.

I wish the Republicans would get off their butts and fix the darn thing the Democrats saddled us with. Not sure how it can be fixed, but they need to DO something. At least change the name from Affordable Care Act to Bankrupt the People Act, because at least that would be accurate.

The Republicans weakened and weakened Obama's plan as he continually made concessions to get them on board (though after all that compromise, not one of them voted for it).

All of the plans the Repubs have will make things much much worse, not better.

That is an awful l8t of medical expenses in just one year!

Agree that the R3publican Party has no plan to make health care more affordable for anyone.

As a republican and a benefits administrator I see both ends of the spectrum with this law.

I too face penalties for the period I was not working and could not afford health care. Like with anything, the law has its plus and minuses, not to mention, healthcare is very complex, and is difficult to "fix."

I agree with Petunia, what's currently on the table will definitely make things worse.

I'm just so disappointed with the Republicans for being such idiots this year and I'm still annoyed at the Democrats for voting the ACA in when no one had read it. A lot of this crap could have been ironed out back then if they hadn't been in such a rush to pass something, anything. It could also be done now if the two parties would just get over their egos, work together, and do something right for once for the people. I think it would be easier for me if I believed in either party, but I don't. They need to tie the current health care situation to their own health care. If they had to deal with the stuff we the people have to deal with, this would not be an issue anywhere in America ever again. Sometimes I wish we could throw out every single person in politics and start over from scratch.

The ACA was a republican plan in 90s as an alternative to socialized medicine. It was proposed as a free market health insurance. If you hate it, then it's a republican plan. Only one that would pass because socialized medicine is considered evil. FWIW it is supposed to work because demand is supposed to normalize costs. Hasn't happened.

Agree Living Almost ACA was mirrored after the MA plan that Romney rolled out. Those who wrote and made changes to the bill are scholars, they knew by putting certain things in, that it would be difficult once implanted to remove, as proven this year.
Obama stated on a number of occasions that the bill had its flaws but for some reason the right refuse to come to the table. Now we have all three branches of government and cannot come up with a halfway decent bill.
I agree that if this was tied to Congress we would see a much better healthcare system

Socialized medicine isn't bad, but it isn't as good as it could be with enough attention.
