What is Your Favorite Crockpot Recipe?

January 2nd, 2015 at 11:08 pm

Since there were some really great ideas posted last month when I asked about go to meals, I thought I'd ask for crockpot meals this month. I am trying to increase my repertoire of these easy to make meals.

My favorite is pulled pork made with a pork butt roast, a jar of arrabiata sauce (from Trader Joe's), 4 oz can of green chiles, and a pint of canned tomatoes, drained. Cook on low for 8 hours.

So what is your favorite? It'd be great to see some that don't rely on cream of something soup or dry onion soup mix, but go ahead and post those, too, if that's your favorite.

Mine is also pork, but not spicy. It is from the little cookbook that came with my crockpot--a long time ago.
Put one sliced onion in bottom of crock pot. Add pork roast which has been seasoned with salt and pepper and 1 clove garlic. (insert little slivers in tiny slits in the meat.) Add one more sliced onion, 2 bay leaves, 1 whole clove, 1 cup hot water and 2 Tablespoons of soy sauce. Cover and cook on low (10 hours for 4-5 pounds of meat.) When done, thicken gravy. Enjoy.

My favorite recipe is for "Sticky Chicken" from this cookbook: http://www.amazon.com/Slow-Cooker-Suppers-Stephanie-ODea/dp/1118230817/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420254505&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=crocpot+365

I love this cookbook so much, because it doesn't resort to "cream of..." soups. It tends to use mostly unprocessed ingredients. The "Sticky Chicken" has a sauce made from soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and parmesan cheese. It sounds weird, but it's REALLY good! i've loaned out my copy of this book to a friend at the moment, but I can post the recipe later if you'd be interested.

Thanks for posting this prompt; I'd love to see some recipe suggestions as well.

Those both sound delicious. And yes, Chloe, when you get it back, I'd like to see the recipe. It sounds fantastic.

Here's mine...got it off Facebook last year:

Pasta Fagioli in the Crockpot~ just like Olive Garden
    2 lbs ground beef
    1 onion, chopped
    3 carrots, chopped
    4 stalks celery, chopped
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (16 ounce) can red kidney beans, drained
1 (16 ounce) can white kidney beans, drained
3 (10 ounce) cans beef stock
    3 teaspoons oregano
    2 teaspoons pepper
    5 teaspoons parsley
    1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce (optional)
1 (20 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
    8 ounces pasta

    Directions:
    Brown beef in a skillet.
Drain fat from beef and add to crock pot with everything except pasta.
Cook on low 7-8 hours or high 4-5 hours. Add pasta the last 30 minutes.

I don't use the spaghetti sauce...I just use diced tomatoes and tomato sauce.

How big of a chop is it on the onions and carrots, Rob62521? I could totally do that one if I left out the beans.

I second the Pasta Fagioli - I saw that on Stephanie O'Dea's website a couple of months ago. We just shred the carrots because that is how they do it at Olive Garden. (I think?) & finely chopped onions because that is how the kids prefer the onions.

Here is one of our favorites. (If you can't open the link just try a different browser or use a private browsing session):

Ooo, those sound great MonkeyMama. I think I'll try the butternut squash soup with some of my sweet meat squash. I have one that is the right size.

This is one I forgot about - we had it for dinner last night. (It's not a super hot and spicy dish like most my Indian meals - it's pretty mild).
