Dithering Over Things Decided

July 2nd, 2006 at 12:51 am

So our cable is going to be turned off in 6 days, only when DH called to ask them for directions to where we can drop off the cable box so we don't have to wait around all day for Comcast to show up and get it, they mentioned to him that we could get the local news channels for $5 a month. Okay, that's just the major networks and PBS, plus the Canadian channels that leak over the border. Now I'm wondering if we ought to get the $5 a month service.

It was my idea to get rid of cable in the first place, but I do like to watch Leno and Craig Ferguson at night, which is a bad habit I want to replace by reading more anyway, but I'm getting all antsy about going cable free completely. Which is stupid. Because to me, that just shows how bad the addiction to watching mindless pablum has become.

I don't know. It's silly. There isn't a real reason to even get those few channels. I get the news off the net, or out of the paper, and if nothing else, I can get it off the radio. So even $5 each month is too much if it isn't needed.

Okay, I think I've talked myself out of the $5 a month limited cable.

you are so cheap! $5/mth for a few channels and you can't decide? Were you raised during the depression?

Again with the snarky. Something going on around here? To answer your question: Hardly. I'm 36, just like it says under author info. And we have had digital cable at $65 a month for several years. My issue was in quitting completely or keeping the barest minimum service. It came down to whether I wanted to waste that $60 a year or not. I don't.

As for being cheap, if you had a $150,000 hospital bill to pay off, I imagine you would consider cutting everything you could to get it taken care of sooner. Or maybe you wouldn't. But I would. And since its my blog, I get to talk about my choices.

its nice to hear that i'm not the only one who feels that cable has become an addiction and i'm having to cut my cable and internet and second phone line too because i have more important things to pay for too. i was feeling weird about cutting off the cable and other things but i'm going to do it because i need to put that money somewhere more important. your doing the right thing and once you get rid of it it will probably feel like a burden or weihgt lifted off your shoulders. good luck with your budget.
