Inheritance Amount

March 3rd, 2012 at 03:15 am

Well, we won't be able to cash it until Monday, as we didn't make it out to MIL's house tonight, but MIL told us the amount and it is $7,456.58. I had remembered realtor fees but forgot to calculate in lawyer's fees when I estimated between $7500 to $8500, so it's right around where I thought it would be, just the low end.

We'll go out for a visit tomorrow and pick it up while we are out there. I am excited to finally know how much we will lower our debt by. Once we pay it that credit card will have $14,077.83 left on it. And when we get out tax return back we will be sending $8000 and have $6077.83 left. So much major progress to be made this month. I am excited.

ING Interest, EF Goal Update, and Coin Jar Update

March 3rd, 2012 at 12:22 am

I added February's interest to the EF. It was $3.17. I also forgot to list here that I sent $100.00 to the EF on the payday of 2/24/12.

$4039.47 Beginning EF
+___3.17 Interest Added
--------------
$4042.64 New EF Total
+_100.00 Feb deposit
---------------
$4142.64 Ending EF Total

I did not meet my February goal of hitting $4250, as the cash back money I had intended to put in the EF went towards my physical therapy bill instead. This is the first month I have not met my EF goal, but extenuating circumstances make me feel okay about that. I am hoping to catch up. My main goals are to be at $5000 by the end of June and $6000 by the end of 2012.

I will be depositing $100 out of this paycheck, too, but I haven't sent that yet so am not counting it until I do. I am close to being able to make a deposit to the safety net as well. Hopefully by the end of next week.

I added $7.78 to the coin jar today.

Inheritance Money!

March 2nd, 2012 at 05:35 pm

After numerous delays DH's grandparents' house sale finally closed yesterday. His parents told us to come by for a check today after 4:30. I'm still not sure of what the total is as DH forgot to ask but it should be between $7000 and $8000 for his share. I cannot wait to get that in the bank so it can clear and we can send a nice lump sum off to Bank of America and see our balance really drop!

Still no word on when to expect our tax return as that particular function of the IRS website still does not seem to be working properly. *sighs*

Pantry Quest Day 7

March 2nd, 2012 at 02:37 pm

So I was pretty much off the internet yesterday (see previous entry) and didn't get to put in my pantry quest info. We had frozen hamburger and buns and cheese on hand, so last night we made cheeseburgers for dinner. I add about 4 tbsp of tomato sauce to my burger meat. It keeps the meat a bit moister while cooking. We had 1.09 pounds of meat and made five burgers with it (Mom ate with us). Each patty is sprinkled with onion salt and Lawry's seasoning. Delicious.

I also made up some simple cole slaw. Cabbage keeps for a long time until you cut into it and I have several in the fridge, so when I need a quick go to veg for dinner I make cole slaw.

DS added some dried mango slices, but no one else was really in the mood for fruit or had filled up too much on the cole slaw.

My favorite store has started one of its stupid game promotions. Now is a good time to be spending less time in the grocery store, that's for sure.

I will be paying my medical bill in full today as well as sending a payment ot AMEX and the mortgage and maybe one or two smaller bills as well. I wish I'd done this before my laptop screen busted. Now I will have to transport the Excel file into Open Office and set up the March Budget template in it and then transer it all back when I get my laptop back. If I hadn't procrastinated and done it earlier in the week that wouldn't be an issue now.

Computer in the shop again

I managed to bust the screen on my laptop yesterday. I am still not sure how, but at least it has still got a year on the service contract. I've already gotten my money's worth out of the thing, and never have I been so glad that I bought it.

My cheapo backup laptop that refuses to do more than turn on, turns out it is still under warranty until November even though I didn't buy a service contract with it. It will work when plugged into a monitor though, so I am using it jury-rigged to an old monitor and have plugged in a keyboard and mouse as well, though those aren't necessary. It just makes it easier to use. When I get my Sony back, then I can send in the cheapo one to be fixed. They think it is just a loose wire, which is what I was suspecting.

Anyway, this cobbled together mess is letting me use the internet, though it is slow. It wasn't slow before so I don't know why it is slow now, but it lets me stream. If I want to waste time on the one FB game I play, I have to borrow DH's laptop to do it. They think I should have my laptop back before he leaves again since they will just be swapping out the screen. I hope so.

Pantry Quest Day 6

March 1st, 2012 at 05:31 pm

I forgot to blog about this yesterday as DH came home and we were running around a lot. DS had a doctor's appointment in the middle of the school day and another appointment after school so it was just hectic.

But we had chicken from the freezer, green beans from the pantry, and some fresh corn from Florida that was on a really good sale when I bought produce.

There is leftover chicken so I think lunch is going to be quesadillas today (or after school snack for the kids). I have tortillas in the fridge and plenty of cheese and it's such a fast, go to option.

Dinner tonight I'll have to think about a bit, but I am definitely saving money by doing this. I did finally remember to buy peanut butter and brown sugar when I got milk yesterday so now we should be good for a while.
