Hanging Lights

November 20th, 2006 at 07:10 am

I helped DH hang twinkle icicle lights on the house today. We put the new LED ones on the front peak that faces the road. Then we put the non LED ones along the length of the house that is technically the front of the house, though it sits sideways on the property, around the porch and then we still have to do one more string to finish the last length, but we ran out of light. We won't have them on this soon but DH leaves for Alaska tomorrow night and won't be back until the 12th or 13th. I can do everything else myself, but not the gutters. Well, I could, but I really don't want to.

We also got all the Christmas stuff down from the 2nd floor of the shed so I can set everything up easily at my leisure.

We did go to town again today and get some more gutter clips and some cable, 2 50 foot lengths and 2 25 foot lengths and we will run these through our standing displays and lock them around the huge cedar trees. We were robbed last Christmas, someone took $90 worth of our lights right off our apple tree. We caught them in the act, but they took off and had already gotten most of the stuff off the tree. We managed to save two. They were those big ball lights they had at Lowe's a few years ago that had fifty lights each and were in really unique jewel tone colors and they don't carry them anymore. I was really mad I couldn't replace them, but in retrospect they were huge energy hogs no matter how pretty they were.

We also ate dinner out, an unplanned spend. Hopefully that is the last of those for awhile.

When it comes to lights at Christmas I am a nut! I use the big C9 lights and I love the fuzzy effect I get. I like the multi0colored strings. I always think back to my childhood when stringing lights. I outline the house and then I do the bushes around the house. I do the fence on the side of the house as well. I have candleabras in all the windows. I have the tree in the center of the front windoow,

I love the holiday and I know the lights cost but it brings me a great jot to have the house decorated so!Smile
I am sorry to hear that folks stole some of your Christmas stuff. It has happened around here with figurines and those new blow up Santas and such!

We went to visit family one Christmas and it snowed. We showed the kids how to make a snowman (we don't live in snow country here) with a face and arms and all and they were tickled over him Somebody came along that night and chopped him up. Nice people....ruining other's fun. Can't believe they stole your lights --- actually, I can. Sad, isn't it?

Price--I love decorating, too. Growing up we never had lights on the outside of the house. In fact, my mother never put lights up until 3 years ago, she does a few strands and has some deer. She did it for the grandkids, but not for her own kids! That seems to be the way sometimes. My IL's go all out crazy like we do. I'll be working on everything else over the next couple weeks. DH got the last string of icicles up on the house before I took him to the airport.

Jan--People like that are the same ones who smash your pumpkins on Halloween. I wish they would think about the little kids they are hurting.

Robin, where did you get the twinkling LED icicle lights? Are they as bright as the others? What was the cost? Planning for this year!!!

It was either at WalMart or Kmart and they cost twice as much as the regular ones, I'm thinking it was around $10 for the same amount of non-LED lights for $5. But the energy savings was significant. They are much brighter than the others.
