The Best Thing

May 7th, 2006 at 09:49 pm

The very best thing I like about this site so far, is that when I get yet another phone call from SIL telling me of the big purchase she has made with money she doesn't really have of something that I would really like to have but definitely don't need to have, I can come here, read a bit, and get my head on straight. Common sense is good in big doses.

You know, Robin, it feels really good to know that you have the cash that you can buy anything (within reason) that you want to. But then, you really don't want to.

I find this site head-straightening too. Lots of reality here, huh?

I come here every day and read all the new blogs. It helps me keep me focused on saving, esp. since I do my saving at the beginning of the month and count down the other 29 days.

Hi Robin, I know what you mean. My sister called last week and asked to borrow a hundred dollars...as she was going through the drive-thru at McDonalds with the family of five in tow. I wanted to say something snotty like 'go home, cook your own meal then you'd only need to borrow $60' but I didnt. But I did think it. And I loaned her the $100...she does pay me back eventually but still... Anyway, hope you have a good rest of the day as you think about how, when you really do want something special, you will be able to pay cash for it (makes the item MUCH more enjoyable!). MsS

Its a great head straightening, period. All of us have SIL equivalents. Its nice to be a part of a quiet community of people who everybody else asks, "she gets paid the same as me - how does she do it?" We all "do it" one day at a time, one day at a time.

The little things are definately the things that add up. I agree, this site certainly does help to keep me grounded in my spending.
