Very Peeved at Amazon

December 18th, 2014 at 04:19 am

I tried to use my checking account to pay for an order on Amazon because I didn't want to use a credit card. I've done this before with no problems and there is plenty of money in the account. But they won't accept it. I wonder if it is some kind of fraud protection since it is Christmas time? I don't know, because there was no information as to why.

So I ended up using the card and will just send that amount to AMEX, but I don't like having to take that extra step, when I should have been done with it in one step. I am starting to think that these companies are going to force us to use credit cards no matter what.

Do you mean a direct transfer from your checking or using a debit card? I would think potentially they would have issue with the transfer as a fraud precaution, but if you have a debit card, it should really not be an issue. Is there a possibility that it is an issue on your bank's end?

That is bad customer service, but you are right it could be a fraud protection thing. At the least they should just put a hold on the order until verified.

My curiosity had me look at Amazon's payment options and I see you mean a payment coming directly from your checking, without a Debit card. It could potentially be a bank issue. I say this from previous experience that my bank actually blocked certain things for potential fraud issues. Once I called them and let them know I was using the account in this manner, they removed the block.

Yes, it is definitely bad customer service, be it Amazon or the bank who is doing the blocking. Sorry.

My credit union has never blocked it before. I've been using it this way for a year with Amazon.

    From the Amazon website:

"Items that you're unable to purchase with a checking account include:

    Gift Cards
    Amazon Prime memberships
Digital items such as digital music
Purchases over a certain amount based on the account's history with Amazon"

Yeah, it was none of that stuff. It was like a $10 book and a $20 DVD and a bread machine. The bread machine only cost $80 and was a separate transaction from the rest of it. I've spent way more than that on other occasions there paying from my checking account. I can see the bread machine, but the other stuff? Just weird.
