Medical

December 3rd, 2014 at 02:47 am

I spent $90 on physical therapy today. I've moved my day to Tuesdays until January. My PT's schedule is crazy for Fridays this month and I don't want to deal with it. I like consistent times.

I am still sick and I am going to try to go back to the doctor tomorrow. I am just not shaking this. I have been sick for over 2 months now and I am tired of it. I don't think I was on the antibiotics long enough. I don't know why doctors are so stingy with them. I told him flat out that a ten day supply would not be enough and I needed a full 2 weeks or I'd likely relapse. And what happens? 2 days after the antibiotics are done, the minor improvement I saw was gone.

I hate training new doctors. I miss my old doctor so much. They just don't make them like him anymore.

I also did two surveys from Pinecone on Monday and already got payment notification. They really seem to be peppering me with them the last couple of weeks. Not that I'm complaining!

I'm sorry you're still not feeling well Frown The reason that doctors are "stingy" with anitbiotics (and really, they aren't, studies show that about 75% of antibiotics are prescribed when not needed, and for too long and at too high a dose) is because of antibiotic resistance. The longer you are on an antibiotic, the greater chance for drug-resistant bacteria to evolve. In most cases, even 10 days of an antibiotic is way too long. I'm a microbiologist who does hospital infection control, so I see it all the time. I don't recall what your exact illness is, but it may be prudent to request them to do a bacterial culture. If you've been on antibiotics a lot before, which it sounds like you may have been, your bacteria could be developing resistance to what you've always been treated with. This way they can find out exactly what bacteria (if any) is causing your illness, and what antibiotic they should be treating you with. Good luck!

I follow your blog and you seem...stressed out a lot. That can be really hard on your immune system. I know it is hard not to get stressed (sister in law asking for money, kids need expensive shoes, bunnies getting hurt), but you really need to take care of yourself and focus on the positive! You had a post a few weeks ago about a charity you don't donate to sending you stuff - and while your post was kind of funny, it was also a bit negative. Negativity and stress and health killers - trust me, I know from experience.

I get that when your sick it is hard to be positive, but try and find one thing each day that you can be happy about. It can be as small as being the last car through a yellow light! The internal acknowledgement of something positive can make you feel so much better! Good luck!

Honestly, I am not as negative as I can come across here. I tend to use my blog to vent so that I keep the attitude out of my actual real life, where I tend to be a pretty sunny person most of the time. There has been a lot of stress though this year with my husband's work and not knowing what was happening there and with my daughter's skull fracture, so it has been harder to maintain a positive attitude.
