Vacation Musings

July 10th, 2007 at 09:36 pm

So I have $700 saved up for our family vacation in 10 days and its sitting in my ING account along with my EF. And I'm looking at that balance and thinking how I really don't want to see it drop down when I take that $700 out. I like the higher balance.

Crazy, huh? I save up for it and then don't want to spend it. Strange when I am so looking forward to this trip. Having the extra money in there has already generated interest of a bit over a dollar this month. And I don't like the idea of the interest dropping down to half of what it is making now.

I'll get over it. I won't go cancelling the vacation just to save the money. I just think I'm being silly. Does anyone else ever have these random thoughts of not wanting to spend money saved for a specific purpose on that item?

I remember going through this before, too. Not wanting to spend the EF on a car repair emergency when that was what it was really there for.

I do. I have a car fund and I have saved enough in it to pay off the car. But I haven't done it yet, because I don't want to see my balance drop below a certain level and I will miss the interest.

I know exactly what you mean. When I put money into ING, it's supposed to stay there. SO when its time to use it for its intended use, I don't want to take it out. I even try to find other sources of money to use, just to avoid taking out of the savings!

Same here. Hubby wants me to take the money I've saved and pay on the debt. It is the right thing to do, but I have balked at taking it out!

I do the same thing!! I work so hard to save it up that I hate to pull it out to use it!

I've been so diligent in saving money at ING that I totally forgot I also had a savings account at my credit union. I have $50 a month put in there directly out of my paycheck.

I am like that, I hate to see my funds drop in my ING account. It maybe for a good cause but it is just the idea

I totally get how that feels, I just bought a 2004 c240 mercedes from a my sister who could'nt afford the payments. I paid her $18,000 cash great price not including taxes and insurance adjustment, but I needed to replace a town car I paid $2000 for back in 2002 anyway. So it was a blessing for both my sister and me. And still it felt like a huge sin removing those monies from my savings, knowing it would take another year to replace the funds. It was getting in the way of enjoying the new purchase, thinking about the dropped balance to my account, but I recovered my emotions. Now I got to recover my monies boo hoo
